Hey everyone! I hope you all have had a great weekend! I'm so thankful last week is over with, it was definitely a rough one for me. I hope to be able to get it together and finally post tomorrow as I had originally had planned.
For today, we have a guest post from Briana at Nail A College Drop Out! Make sure you check out her blog and thank her for helping out!
A major thank you to ALL of our guest bloggers in the past two weeks, I owe you guys BIG time!
Hey guys I'm Briana from http://nailacollegedropout.blogspot.com/ Every so often I have a Saturday morning to myself. "Where does this lead,” you wonder. Whelp, not too long ago I found myself watching SpongeBob SquarePants. After thinking, "wow, this show sure is annoying." I decided to recreate the Bikini Bottom back drop on my nails. See, I told you I had a point.
For this manicure I preformed a gradient with Dare To Wear Teddy and Barry M Spring Green. Then, I stamped over it using China Glaze Flip Flop Fantasy using Bundle Monster Plate BM-205.
Feel free to stop by my blog http://nailacollegedropout.blogspot.com/

Tune in. Drop out. Love polish.

Tutorial: How to Remove Dark Colors
Hey everyone! The past few days have continued to be very hectic, dealing with finalizing the move, transferring all bills and utilities... I'm pretty much drained. I plan to be back posting by Tuesday at the latest. A major thank you again to everyone who has helped me out with guest posts and such.
Today's post is from Lyndsey at Nails by Ms. Lizard! Please go check out her page and thank her for helping out! She is such a sweetie!
Hello, everyone. Heidi was nice enough to let me write a guest post! My name is Lyndsey aka Ms. Lizard and I write for Nails by Ms. Lizard I put together a quick tutorial on how to remove dark colors without staining your cuticles.
I'm wearing Picture Polish Monroe, a dark blood red burgundy with holographic sparkles. As you may know, the usual method of removing colors is to use a back and forth scrubbing method. This can cause staining if you are wearing a dark color such as this vampy red. First, you will want to moisturize your cuticles with a either some lotion or cuticle oil.
Saturate your cotton pad and place in one your nail. You'll want just a small amount of cotton or the remover reabsorb into the cotton if you use too much. Here I cut up a cotton round into quarters.
Wait about 5 minutes and press down and pull off the cotton. You don't want to wait too long or the remover will evaporate making the cotton harder to remove. The fibers will get stuck on your nail.
Most of the polish has come off and no stained cuticles! Repeat on all nails, wash your hands and moisturize again. If you want to start a new manicure, prep your nails again with some remover to remove all oil.
I hope you found this quick tutorial helpful. This same method could be used to remove glitter which we all know can be difficult to remove.
Thanks for reading!

Indie Spotlight: Elixir Lacquers!
My name is Nicole, and I was born and raised in Atlanta. I have a great husband, and two adorable little boys.
What is the name of your polish and where can it be found?
My polish is called Elixir Lacquers and can be found at http://www.elixirlacquers.com/, as well as http://www.overallbeauty.com/
How long have you been making polish?
I started creating frankens when I was a little girl. I was always so interested to see what I could come up with by mixing certain polishes together. I even named them!! I decided to start actually making some for myself in 2011, and it just kind of snowballed from there.
What made you originally start making polish?
I got so tired of having something specific in mind, and then having to try to hunt it down. So, I took matters into my own hands.
Where do you find inspiration?
Every where. If I see a random wild flower, a bench downtown, or even watching my kids play with our dogs ... you can find awesome colors anywhere. And those colors belong on your nails!!!
What has been your most popular polish to date?
With a K is without a doubt my most popular! It's actually my "name sake" polish, and was the first one I decided to sell. So, it's really very special to me. It makes me so happy that it's my number one!
Which of your creations are you most proud of?
With a K, of course. Kind of Connery and Bad Kitty would be next in line. Kind of Connery is a complete glitter bomb, and has such a galaxy feel to it. Bad Kitty always manages to blow me away. On it's own, it's gorgeous. But when you layer it over almost any other color, it'll show you a whole new speed!!! It's so versatile.
Describe your dream polish:
Oh wow ... that totally depends on which day you ask me!!! But really, if there were the possibility of a multichrome that flashed through the full rainbow spectrum, I'd definitely be on board.
How long do you test a polish before you decide to release it?
I test them for a solid month before I even consider selling them. I always want to be sure that the glitters are going to react well with the base, or that no separations occur. I swatch them like crazy to make sure the formula is right.
A major company comes knocking on your door, what do you do? And what is your dream company to create for?
How crazy would that be?! Honestly, I don't know that I could change the way I do things. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to be able to have the mixing part done factory style ... but I don't think I could ever design for a huge company, and leave Elixir behind.

Guest Post: So You Think You Can Paint - Fish Braid Mani
Hey everyone! On top of all the stress from moving, can you believe I'm starting to feel sick?! I think it has to do with all the stress my body has been under. If its not one thing, its another! Anyway, I spent most of yesterday in bed and resting. I am going to attempt some more unpacking today so hopefully I can get back to normal sooner than later!
Thank you all again and make sure you check out Shannon's page and show her some love!
I would like to thank Heidi for giving me the opportunity to guest blog for her! I'm really honored to have been invited.
Hi, my name is Shannon, I'm fairly new to this nail polish obsession, but I certainly made up for lost time! My blog is So You Think You Can Paint.
For my guest post I wanted to challenge myself a bit, so I decided to try my hand at some of those fish braid manicures I've been seeing. I chose three colors from the China Glaze On Safari collection: Elephant Walk (Grey with a Silver Shimmer), Exotic Encounters (Teal) and Jungle Queen (Purple with a Lighter Purple Shimmer).
As you can see, I was a bit off center with my application. I thought the formula on Elephant Walk and Jungle Queen were perfect, but Exotic Encounters was a MESS! It was very thin and pooled all over my cuticles every time I put brush to nail. It was extremely frustrating! It also took longer than it did to put on for clean up.
I do like the combination of colors and I think the shimmers work well together. I'll definitely be trying this again!

Guest Post: Peace, Love, Lacquer - A Tape Mani!
Hey everyone! Another quick update, I have officially finished moving and cleaning everything yesterday and turned in the keys to the old place! I am so glad that part is over, now I just have to get settled into the new place and unpack.
The good news is that all the polish made it safely to the new place! I can't wait to set up my new nail/make up area! Once I finally get it all together, I'll take pictures to share with you guys!
I should be back to posting normally by next week, I'll update when possible and until then, I have a few more guest posts for you guys! Please check out these lovely ladies who have been kind enough to help me out!
Today I have a post from Kelly at Peace Love Lacquer! Go show her page some love and thank her for helping us out!
Hi everybody! I'm Kelly from Peace Love Lacquer. I want to start by thanking Heidi for letting me share a post with you ladies! I hope moving is going smoothly :D
I got a few Pixi polishes off of Hautelook.com last month that I hadn't used yet, so I decided this was a great time!
This is Pixi polish #26. It is a very shiny purple shimmer. The formula was smooth, and it took two coats for full coverage.
I didn't want to just do a boring swatch, so I thought a quick taped mani would be cute. This is a phenomena, since I usually have zero patience for taping!
I eyeballed half way through the nail and used Pixi polish #25 to add contrast. And to make it pop, I used my It's So Easy Stripe Rite Silver to separate the colors. I really enjoyed wearing this, it was different from what I usually do (since I never tape! lol)
Thanks again to Heidi for letting me fill in for the day!

Guest Post: Jilltastic Nail Design - Jordana - Hawaiian Flower
Hey everyone! A quick little update before we get to the guest blog post, I have spent all weekend moving and cleaning. My whole body is aching but I'm happy to say that I am about 95% done! I will finish the rest in the morning and run a few errands. I will try to be back to my normal posting ASAP. Thank you all again for the kind words and for bearing with me! Hope you all had a great weekend!
Now let's welcome Jillian!
Hello! I am Jillian from Jilltastic Nail Design. The lovely DIY Polish has agreed to let me do a guest post for her! Isn't she the best!?! Ok, so for my guest post I want to show you a Jordana polish. I currently have 5 of this brand and LOVE all of them.
Today's polish is called Hawaiian Flower. It is a very creamy reddish pink. Its more pink than red in person. (I hope my picture shows that) The polish goes on very easily. It is a bit opaque, it took me 3 coats to be satisfied. The brush is the typical kind and easy to maneuver. I can wear this polish for about 2 days with out any top coats before it starts to chip.
You can get Jordana at any K-Mart store, (that's where I get mine), and they are under $2.00. They also have the precision brushes for nail art, glitter bombs, crackles, and nail treatments!
Thanks!
Jilltastic
Make sure you check out Jillian's blog here: http://www.jilltasticnaildesign.com/ and thank her for helping out and guest blogging at DIY Polish!

Indie Spotlight: a-england!
a-england
a-england was born from my passion for nail polish and England and both are intertwined in the name (being A my initial). May aim is the constant quest and endeavour for beauty, but also to offer a heart and not just a product. And this is also why I give great importance to the themes of my collections which have a story to talk and dream about.
I believe in human contacts and it is my purpose to keep in touch with the world out there: bloggers, fans, customers, friends who I call them all: “a-england family”.
How cold would be an online business without the warmth of a human touch!
http://www.a-england.co.uk/
http://www.facebook.com/aengland.fb
twitter @aenglandtweets
In case you haven't seen already, a-england is currently having a thank-you to the fans sale! Once the currency is converted, it equals out to be just under $8 for a polish with FREE SHIPPING!!! If you've been wanting to get some a-england's, now is definitely the time! This sale end July 22, 2012!
What is the name of your polish and where can it be found?
a-england. Sold online from a-england shop and from various online stockists worldwide.
How long have you been making polish?
the launch of a-england was on 8 January 2011. I had never dealt with nail polish before apart applying other brands on my nails.
What made you originally start making polish?
My long life passion since a little child combined with an urge to express my creativity. I had been a fashion designer for many years until the interest faded away, but the innate taste for creativity drove me toward another way to be expressed.
Where do you find inspiration?
In England! My sources of inspirations are also my main interests : reading and arts in general. I am attracted and fascinated above all by the English art mouvements of late 19th century: literature, neo gothic architecture, Pre-Raphaelite painting.
What has been your most popular polish to date?
Tristam a blue holo that under any direct light reveals the “enchantment” of a blue starry night.
Which of your creations are you most proud of?
Princess Sabra also known as Tristam Eyes after my beloved cat (called Tristam). When I thought to match his irises colour I took on a challenge and fulfilled it. It is also a totally unique shade very original and very elegant too. My favourite “neutral”.
Describe your dream polish:
Perfect formula, 3 free, cruelty free with no animal components (as a-england), very chic and so iconic to be a classic.
How long do you test a polish before you decide to release it?
Many days. I apply it and remove it quite a few times to test the formula and the hue under different lights and different moods.
A major company comes knocking on your door, what do you do? And what is your dream company to create for?
I would feel very flattered first. Before entering in negotiation I would ponder all the conditions with pro and cons.

Guest Post: The Jedi Wife - All The Glitters - Ziggy Stardust!
Hey everyone!
I want to thank you all again for bearing with me during this busy two weeks. I still have so much going on, packing and cleaning. I get the keys to my new place tomorrow afternoon and can't wait to actually start moving in! I am totally excited for this to all be over with and to start decorating! haha
Today I have a guest post from Jen at The Jedi Wife showing off a BEAUTIFUL indie polish! Make sure you check out her pages (blog: here! and Facebook: here!) and thank her for helping out!
Thank you so much, Jen!!
Hi everyone! *waves* For those of you that don't know me, my name is Jen, and my blog is Musing of the Wife of a Jedi, aka The Jedi Wife (http://thejediwife.blogspot.com). I wanted to share with you a polish that doesn't get anywhere near as much love as it should, and one of the first indie polishes I ever purchased: Ziggy Stardust by All That Glitters (http://www.etsy.com/shop/allthatglittersnails). I have been a David Bowie fan for as long as I can remember, and my favorite movie of all time is Labyrinth. Needless to say, when I first heard of this colour, I knew I had to have it. And then I saw the colour. I confess that when I realized it was a coral base with white and gold glitters I was a little turned off by it. Corals and nudes have never been my cup of tea, but my love of David Bowie was just too strong to just say no. I bought that bottle and and let it sit in my untrieds drawer for months. The base colour is far too sheer to reach opacity and hide the dreaded visible nail line, and I didn't own anything for the longest time that would make suitable underwear. I eventually got Zoya's Lyric, a gorgeous peach colour with gold shimmer, and I realized that I could finally break out my bottle of Ziggy Stardust. I used two coats of Lyric and one coat of Ziggy Stardust for these pictures. I finished it up with one coat of Hong Kong Girl, my favorite top coat.
Both Lyric and Ziggy Stardust applied like a dream for me. Ziggy Stardust isn't as jam-packed with glitters as many of the new indies on the market, and that did make it easier to work with. I didn't have to force glitters apart and fill in empty spaces, not that I won't do it for pretty nails! :D
All That Glitters is temporarily closed while Kirsten, the creator, moves to and settles in her new home, but you can keep an eye on her Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/allthatglittersnails) for updates in addition to signing up for an open shop notice on etsy (http://www.etsy.com/shop/allthatglittersnails).
I hope you enjoyed my post, and I wish you a wonderful day!

Sparkles by Julie - mostly glitters and fun colored nail polishes inspired by everyday objects, the beauty of nature, life, our universe, mixed with a little bit of my craziness =)
What is the name of your polish and where can it be found?
The name is Sparkle by Julie and it can be found:

How long have you been making polish?
I started making polish for fun last May (2011), I started selling my own creations late March this year (2012).
What made you originally start making polish?
It all started with an extremely sheer gold nail polish that I bought. I had to put on four layers to make it opaque! So I decided to buy another gold nail polish to replace it, but couldn't bring myself to throw it away. That's when I found out about Frankening, so I bought a cheap red nail polish, mixed it with the sheer gold, and I was hooked. Here's the blog post with pictures; http://sp4rklingnails.blogspot.com/2011/05/my-first-successful-frankenpolish.html.
After a while though, mixing ready made colors wasn't enough so I started sourcing pigments, micas and glitters and spent most of last summer experimenting for fun. I also started making colors that I wanted but could not find, or if I bought a polish that looked good on pictures but bleh on the nails I would make a "better" version myself (at least what I considered better). An example is my "version" of Teenage Dream; http://sp4rklingnails.blogspot.com/2011/09/real-teenage-dream.html (This is not for sale btw, I have a similar color though called Nebula which is a red/orange tone with rough holographic glitters).
My boyfriend started saying that my creations looked way better than what I bought, and another friend of mine asked me why I was still buying nail polish when I could just create anything I wanted, so I started playing with the idea of expanding my little projects and started to think about names and collections, still just for fun. After a while I found that others were selling their creations, and I thought that would be a great way to finance further research and experiment! But still I thought it was a bit scary since the competition seemed so fierce, there are so many indie brands popping up! When I showed my boyfriend other indies he started nagging, and he didn't quit until I said, "OK, I will give it a go", and ordered supplies for a small batch. I think maybe he just wanted me to start a new hobby so he could play more video games!! LOL! Without the support and encouragement from my friends and my boyfriend I would never have the courage to start.
Where do you find inspiration?
I find inspiration in so many ways. The easiest way to explain it, I think, is that creation can happen in several ways. One way is when I think about a color, or a color combination and then start experimenting. Another way is that I will think of a name and then start to think about how that nail polish would look. Sometimes I will just put some glitters in my clear nail polish base, and then start adding stuff, where the polish almost creates it self. It's kinda like writing a song, you can start with the music, the lyrics, or the meaning behind it.
Also there are several things that inspire me, the Galaxy Collection is inspired by my inner geek and the Mauna Kea outpost on Big Island as well as beautiful pictures of, well, the Galaxy! Other polishes were inspired by my pet mice, I have four =D Lily Vanilli is a white Siamese mouse with a sassy attitude which inspired Water Lily. Coco Chanell is our feisty little brown baby mouse, which was the inspiration for Coco ;-) I also find inspiration in other polishes, or color trends in clothes or just accessories. I can spend hours clicking through Etsy checking out all kinds of handmade items and just be inspired by fun color combinations.
What has been your most popular polish to date?
According to my Etsy stats the most popular polish is Dots n' Stripes, followed by Lost in Space and Water Lily. These are the ones that get the most views and favorites. In sales these three are almost identical! Which might actually make Water Lily the winner as it was posted fairly recent.
Which of your creations are you most proud of?
I love all my polishes and each are created based on some kind of inspiration so I am proud of all my colors. I am mostly proud of just being able to actually sell my creations, and I love it when my customers will send me a text saying how much they love my polishes. But if I have to mention some; Lost in Space was the one that started me on the glitter craze, and this one looks absolutely gorgeous on tanned skin, so I think this is the one I am most proud of. For my fair skin though I really do love the look of Water Lily and Murky Waters. At the moment these two are my personal favorites. In the beginning Nebula and Out of This World were my favorites. I also really love to see swatches of Coco. A friend of mine was wearing Moon Dust for about a week, and people kept asking her about it, unfortunately its beauty doesn't transfer too well to pictures so it doesn't really sell. But I love it, so it will stay in my shop =) So basically, I just love all my polishes!!! =D
Describe your dream polish:
My dream polish is one that dries instantly, looks incredibly smooth, and lasts for weeks!! Hehehe! In the beginning I was considering making my own base from scratch to ensure that all the qualities I wanted were present. In the end though, this turned out to be very difficult and way out of my budget. And as well these qualities are likely incompatible with glitter nail polishes. For example if it would dry too fast the application would be dreadful! My dream color nail polish changes all the time, which keeps me experimenting =)
How long do you test a polish before you decide to release it?
Some of the pigments and glitters I am using have been tested for over a year since that was when I started experimenting. I also try to make nail polish that I would want to wear and test them out for drying time and durability. When I find a glitter or pigment that works well I tend to stick to the same brand or supplier to ensure that they will have more or less the same quality. I have found a lot of glitters that seemed good on paper but started to bleed after a few weeks, so I tend to keep these bottles around to remind myself not to use those glitters, but I can't bring myself to throwing them away! Hehe! So in short; if I have a new color of glitter but from the same brand and quality I will not test it too long, maybe a couple of days to a week, depending on the material of course. If I am trying out a new brand I will usually test it out for a few weeks at least.
A major company comes knocking on your door, what do you do? And what is your dream company to create for?
Oh I am pretty sure that wont happen! But if it did; I would probably ask them for some proof, or just laugh and ignore it cause I would think someone was trying to make fun of me... To be honest, I don't really know if I would want to create for a big company, though the resources would of course be great help. I think it would take away some of the fun, depending on of course how the collaboration would work. If I would be able to make something unique with just their backup in resources I might consider it. Right now I am happy with being tiny ;-)
Right now I actually have mostly indies myself, I have Lynnderella, Girly Bits, Aqua Daisy, Candy Lacquer, Pretty & Polished and Amy's Nail Boutique polishes. Often the major companies post the same or at least similar colors over and over again, and they often skimp out on the glitters it seems! I think the Indie world is so much more fun ;-D After the indies I do have mostly OPI's though since I really like their application, but again, they're a bit boring ;-P Also I do not like how major companies keep re-releasing different looks like it is something new, instead of actually creating something.
But that's just my 2 cents ;-)

Try It On Tuesday: 365 Days of Color - Heidi
Hey everyone!
Today we have another Try It On Tuesday post featuring a custom indie polish from 365 Days of Color Polishes called Heidi. As much as I would love to say this is named after me (My name is Heidi lol) its not! haha it sort of started as a joke between a group of us about Heidi & Spencer from The Hills.
Unfortunately, this polish is not available for purchase but its so pretty that I wanted to share it with you guys anyway. It is a white base with holo teal glitter, tiny black glitter, 2 different sizes of black hexes and black bar glitter.

Isn't it amazing?! I have to admit, usually I'm not a fan of white bases with glitter but I really do love this! It applied so easily, I definitely didn't have to fight to get the glitter out, it dried fairly smooth. One coat of Seche Vite smoothed it out perfectly.
Anyway, go check out the rest of 365 Days of Color Polishes here: http://365daysofcolorpolishes.bigcartel.com/ She has a new NEON collection coming out this weekend!

Zoya Wednesday turned holo!
Hey everyone!
I feel like it has been forever since I have posted but its only been a few days. I'm in the middle of packing to move so posting this week might be a little sparse. I thank you all for bearing with me through this. The exciting part of the move is that I'll have a new nail/cosmetic station and work area! I'm pretty excited about decorating and making it my own.
Anyway, I have a pretty simple but beautiful manicure to share with you all today, Zoya Wednesday! I've had it for a while now but I'm just now getting around to using it. The application was great, went on very smooth and effortlessly.

Now, Zoya Wednesday is beautiful but to spice it up just a little, I added a 1 coat of a spectraflair top coat that I mixed up.
The two pictures above are both in natural light with no flash.
Here is a blurred picture with flash so you can see the extent of the amazing holo-ness!
Holy moly, the outcome is truly beautiful! I love Zoya Wednesday on its own but with the holo top coat it really pops!
What is your favorite holo polish? Do you have anything you'd like to see me put the top coat over?

Indie Spotlight: Once Upon a Polish!
Once Upon a Polish
What is the name of your polish and where can it be found?
Once Upon a Polish
http://www.etsy.com/shop/OnceUponAPolish
https://www.facebook.com/OnceUponAPolish
How long have you been making polish?
I started making polish for myself in January, and started selling a few months ago.
What made you originally start making polish?
I am absolutely obsessed with nail polish. At first it was my outlet after my sister and nephew died, and I needed something to occupy my time, and it has just grown from there.
Where do you find inspiration?
Fairy tales and my childhood. I loved fairy tales, and still do and find my inspiration in those characters. I am currently reading a book on the psychology behind fairy tales, and it is extremely interesting.
What has been your most popular polish to date?
Most popular, probably Ursula, Scuttle or Flounder.
Which of your creations are you most proud of?
As of right now, Grumpy. I try to capture each of the characters in my polish, and I really think Grumpy does that. As well as Queen of Hearts. These two are my newest, and quickly are becoming my favorites.
Describe your dream polish:
I don't really have a dream polish, I love so many different types.
How long do you test a polish before you decide to release it?
At least a month
A major company comes knocking on your door, what do you do? And what is your dream company to create for?
Say no thanks. I do this as my hobby, and I do not want a large company ruining that! lol

Nail Art: Wednesday Watermelon Nails!
Hey everyone!
Today is the 4th of July, so happy 4th everyone! I hope you all are having a great and safe time with your friends and family and remember to wear sunscreen!
Anyway, a few other bloggers and I got together to do a watermelon nail art post. When I think of watermelon, I definitely think of summer. It really brings me back to my childhood.

Anyway, a few other bloggers and I got together to do a watermelon nail art post. When I think of watermelon, I definitely think of summer. It really brings me back to my childhood.
I used OPI's I'm All Ears as my base. It is a shimmery pink-ish color, you can see my swatch post of it here: OPI - I'm All Ears
I then painted the tip with China Glaze's I'm With The Lifeguard, from the newest Summer Neon Collection. It is a neon green with a slight shimmer. I also added streaks of China Glaze's Re=fresh Mint to give that true watermelon rind look.
To complete the watermelon mani, I used a random black in my stash and a small dotting tool for the seeds. Now
I hope you all enjoy and have a great holiday!
What reminds YOU of summer?
Oh and make sure you check out the other bloggers who did watermelon posts!

And I am such an idiot, I totally didn't realize I had a chip on my middle finger nail until after I took the pictures, I have since fixed it lol SORRY!!!
Also, I guess I didn't wait long enough for the black to dry because when I applied the top coat it smeared a little. Oh well, it still kinda looks cool and grungy and bright haha. Plus, its my first time doing a leopard print, can you believe it!?

Summer Challenge Day 2: Summer Ombre!
Hey everyone!
Today's theme is Summer Ombre so of course I wanted to do something neon! Normally when I do "ombres" I do sponged gradients on each nail but this time did more of an actual ombre with a color fade from nail to nail.
I used Zoya Ali, one of my favorite bright neon pinks and Zoya Purity (white). What I did was I put Ali on my pinkie finger and for each finger after that I added a drop of white and mixed it to lighten the color.
So for example:
Pinkie finger: Ali alone
Ring finger: 1 drop of Ali and 1 drop of Purity
Middle finger: 1 drop of Ali and 2 drops of Purity
Index finger: 1 drop of Ali and 3 drops of Purity
Thumb: 1 drop of Ali and 4 drops of Purity
Here was the outcome:
